First Days in Brisbane

Hello! Its been quite awhile since I last blogged... It is quite difficult to do so when I do not have any internet access from our apartment and that whenever I go online using the school's wireless network, I usually have have some e-mails to reply to or some other things to do online, that I don't have time to blog. =( I have this bad feeling that the internet connection will only be done in another 2 weeks time... That is kind of sucky... *Shrugs his shoulders*

Well, things have been okay so far. Settled down in our apartment in Brisbane, it is very near the university, so I don't have to worry about traveling. Almost running out of time, so I'll post up photos in my next post. Just to update where have I been so far...

I went to the Australia Zoo in Beerwah, Queensland. The traveling time to and fro is close to 6 hours! Good thing I have my Zen Mozaic and a couple of books to help tide the time over. The zoo is fine, not as many types of animals as the Singapore Zoo, but the unique thing is that they occasionally walk the animals in the zoo. Like the keepers would take the wombats and even the tigers (Yes, tigers!) out for a walk where visitors can take photos with them.

Also managed to walk around the shopping district in the Brisbane CBD area. We walked around the nearby malls (Nearby as in near our area) in Toowong and Indooroopilly. Generally, most of the things here are more expensive than in Singapore, but I found out that Harvey Norman here is selling the HP DV7 with good specs for 2.2k! Now that is quite worth it!

It is summer now in Australia, but judging from the news in North Queensland, where they have the floods, it is difficult to tell that it is summer here eh? I think the university campus looks kind of cool, though I haven't dared tried the food in the school yet, looks expensive and since quite a few friends tell me not to eat there, I have listened to their advice and avoided the food there. ;) Instead, for lunches, we would just walk out to a place nearby called Hawken Drive to eat at some of the eateries there. I like the fish & chips, its quite fresh and good there. Food here is quite expensive, the rice costs a bomb! That is why so far, for our dinners (My friends and I usually cook for dinners) we've been eating noodles, pasta and stew with bread. Or sometimes we eat out but we've been trying to reduce eating out, since its quite expe>P
Well, since we are on the topic of food, perhaps I can talk more about it. As expected, food in Australia is different from the fare we have in Singapore, there is less variety, even in the food courts, most of the time I can only see fast food like Route 66, MacDonald's, Hungry Jacks (Burger King in Australia is called Hungry Jacks). It is more of salad here if one wants to have more vegetables in their diet, or there is always the Japanese food and the occasional kebab stalls that sells Indian crusine. But they taste very different from what one would eat in Singapore, I guess this is because they cannot find all the kind of spices, herbs or sauces that they would need to cook that kind of crusine, either that or it is very expensive to get them, so the Japanese food and such usually taste very different, and sometimes disasterous without that particular sauce.

Ah well, I think I shall stop for now, need to go off for lunch and run some errands (Actually its just meeting the apartments manager to settle somthing), I'll try to see if I can post some photos tomorrow, when I come back to the university again. Laters then!
